MURAL: John's Bar & Haberdashery Mural

John's Bar & Haberdashery Mural
by Fionnuala Halpin

I commissioned the extremely talented Fionnuala Haplin on behalf of Press Up Hospitality Group to paint a mural for the opening of John's Bar & Haberdashery on Thomas Street. We wanted to pay homage to old school Dublin pub scene, whilst working in the vivid history of John's Bar - supported by Diageo.

Named after John Creeth, a haberdasher who ran his shop under lease at 61 Thomas St in the 1850s, the pub aims to preserve the history of the Liberties, and celebrate one of its oldest trades.

"It's built on a very old premises that they wanted to remember so I drew inspiration from the work of Dublin artist Harry Kern off who specialised in old Dublin pub scenes. I made sure to sneak some women into the snug as well." - Fionnuala Halpin
